Tungsten carbide application and storage and transportation

It is widely used in high-speed cutting tools, kiln structural materials, jet engine components, cermet materials, resistance heating elements and so on.

Used for manufacturing cutting tools, wear resistant parts, melting crucible of copper, cobalt and bismuth, and wear-resistant semiconductor film.

Used as super hard tool material and wear resistant material. It can form solid solutions with many carbides. WC-TiC-Co cemented carbide tools have been widely used. It can also be used as a modified additive of carbides in NbC-C and TaC-C ternary systems. It can not only reduce sintering temperature, but also maintain excellent properties. It can be used as aerospace materials.

Tungsten carbide (WC) powders were synthesized by tungsten anhydride (WO3) and graphite at high temperatures of 1400-1600 in a reducing atmosphere. Dense ceramic products can be prepared by hot pressing sintering or hot isostatic pressing sintering.

Matters needing attention

Health hazards: tungsten dust

It can cause peribronchitis, bronchiolitis, atrophic bronchiolitis and atrophic emphysema. Tungsten carbide can cause proliferative reaction of lymphoid tissue cells in the lung and gradually harden. The vessel wall was thickened and homogenized. People exposed to tungsten carbide dust at work have gastrointestinal disorders, kidney irritation, and catarrhal inflammation in the upper respiratory tract. The maximum allowable concentration of tungsten carbide is 6mg/m3. In the United States, the maximum allowable concentration of soluble tungsten compounds (measured by tungsten) is 1 mg/m3, and that of insoluble tungsten compounds (measured by tungsten) is 5 mg/m3.

Safety protection:

Use qualified gas mask, dust-proof clothing, gloves and glasses. Dust leakage should be prevented at all stages of production. Workers are required to undergo pre-employment physical examinations, which are carried out regularly every year. When obvious symptoms of upper respiratory tract occur, temporary mobilization of work should be made to get out of contact with tungsten. When pulmonary sclerosis or external respiratory dysfunction occurs, work should be removed.

Storage and transportation

Storage: It should be stored in a cool and dry warehouse. Packing containers should be in good condition during transportation, rain proof and sunshine proof.

Packaging, Storage and Transportation: Products are packed in iron barrels (plastic barrels) lined with polyethylene plastic bags. The net weight of each bag shall not exceed 50 kg. The words "damp-proof" and "upward" should be on the outer packing barrel. Products should be stored in a cool, dry warehouse. Packing containers should be in good condition, rain proof and sunlight proof during transportation.
